Knowing your child. Supporting their journey.
At Essendon Keilor College, we prioritise knowing our students well. We take the time to understand their interests, strengths, aspirations and how they learn, so that we can support them to make meaningful progress throughout their time with us. One of the distinct advantages of our multi-campus model is the opportunity to know our students both as learners and as members of our school community. This understanding allows us to respond to where each student is on their learning journey, providing the right level of support, challenge and opportunity to help them achieve their personal best each and every day.
The Middle Years
Our Niddrie campus is purpose-built for students in Years 7–9 and provides an environment designed specifically for the middle years of learning. These are important years of growth and discovery. We want our students to explore who they are, discover what they enjoy and develop the confidence to try new things. Learning is not one-size-fits-all, so we provide a wide range of learning experiences that allow students to learn in different ways. Alongside their core learning, students have opportunities to explore areas such as STEM, the arts, sport, technology, leadership and other areas of interest.
Our focus is on helping students develop effective learning habits, build positive relationships and become increasingly independent and confident as learners.
The Later Years
From Year 10, students move to our Essendon campus, where the learning environment becomes more closely aligned with the choices and responsibilities they will experience beyond school.
We provide students with a range of pathways, including VCE, VCE Vocational Major, VET and a broad selection of subjects and electives. Our aim is not simply to provide students with choices, but to help them make informed choices.
We work with students to understand their strengths, interests and aspirations and then support them to develop a program that opens up future pathway opportunities. We want our students to leave us with the knowledge, skills and confidence to take their next step, whatever that may be.
Meeting students at their point of need
Our commitment is simple: we meet each student at their point of need. For some students, this means providing additional support to help them build confidence and strengthen their learning. For others, it means providing greater challenge, extension, or opportunities to pursue an area they are passionate about.
We believe that knowing our students well is the foundation for getting this right. Our teachers work closely with students and families to understand what each young person needs to thrive.
More than just learning
Education at Essendon Keilor College is about more than what happens in the classroom. Students have opportunities to participate in sport, visual and performing arts, debating, leadership, instrumental music and a range of other activities. These experiences help students discover their interests, develop new skills and build connections with others. Just as importantly, they bring our community together. We value opportunities to celebrate what our students achieve and to give them a chance to share their talents with their peers, families and the wider community.
A connected community
We want every student to feel that they belong at Essendon Keilor College. Our approach is built around positive relationships between students, staff and families. We have high expectations of our students, while recognising that every student will take a different path to achieve their goals. Our expectations are simple: Be Respectful. Be Engaged. Be Aspirational. Be a Learner. Ultimately, we want our students to develop into capable, confident young people who understand themselves as learners, know where they want to go and have the skills and resilience to get there.
Come and see us
Choosing a school is an important decision for every family. A website can tell you about our programs and opportunities, but it cannot show you what it feels like to be part of our community.
We invite you to visit us, meet our staff and students, and experience Essendon Keilor College for yourself.
We would love the opportunity to show you what makes our College a place where your child can learn and thrive.
