Junior School

Learning for Years 7-9 students occurs on our dedicated Junior School sites at East Keilor and Niddrie. Both campuses provide secure, supportive and engaging environments for learning.

Diagnostic testing, targeted teaching and ongoing monitoring helps students make continual progress along the learning continuum. Relevant, interesting and differentiated tasks offering choice and collaboration, engage students in rich learning opportunities. Our students also have access to the digital tools that facilitate sourcing and applying knowledge.

All students are taught to chart their progress through the cycle of goal development, learning, responding to feedback and reflecting on their outcomes. It’s a process that helps students take responsibility for their own learning.

Broad learning through the classroom program is complemented at all year levels by involvement in:

  • Interschool sport
  • Instrumental music
  • leadership training and opportunities including SRC membership
  • Year level camps
  • campus performance evening
  • lunchtime clubs
  • excursions and incursions.

City Centre Experience

In Term 3 our Year 9 students spend four days in Melbourne’s CBD. They investigate a research topic of their choice, interviewing members of the public to gather data. The data is then analysed and presented to parents and staff. Students also enjoy the opportunity to visit iconic Melbourne sites including the Shrine, the MCG and the Queen Victoria Market.

Y Challenge/Advance

A Red Cross sponsored community project program, this Year 9 elective exposes students to learning about social issues, the community, volunteering, disabilities and discrimination. It fosters significant personal development and community mindedness.

A community placement 90 mins/week for a semester provides a hands-on community service opportunity in facilities including childcare, schools, charity shops and the bully zero foundation.

Scope provides input about how to support people with disabilities, and students take a first aid course.

Finding My Place

This 7-week personal development program builds student confidence, connectedness and social awareness.

Activities include: hip hop dancing, yoga, boxing/self defence, rapping, song writing, art therapy, input from refugee peers and the Bully Zero foundation.

The teachers really take our interests into account. We can influence what and how we learn. There’s group work and choice. We can choose electives and learn instruments. I like the support you get toward the pathway that suits you.
