Year 10
The Year 10 program recognises the growing maturity of students and tries to satisfy the needs of the emerging adult.
- Students are grouped into Focus Groups of no more than 25 students
- Focus Group teachers monitor the attendance and well being of students and provide a comprehensive program including study skills, work experience and preparation for the senior years of study
- Year 10 Coordinators oversee the progress of all students in Year 10 and of their transition to the Essendon campus for Years 11 and 12
- Communication with parents is valued and supports the transition process to further training and education
- The curriculum is comprehensive and rigorous and accommodates student choice
- Students have an individual timetable
- Students may choose subjects that relate to future vocations
- Exams are conducted at the end of each semester
The Year 10 program operates form the Year 10 wing of the school:
- Year 10 Homerooms are grouped together
- Access to learning technologies – computers and note pads
- Interactive whiteboards
- Year 10 Coordinators’ office, providing ease of communication and ready access for students
The Year 10 Learning Program is conducted over 10 days and includes choice in each Key Learning Area:
- 9 periods of English – all year
- 9 periods of Mathematics – all year
- 7 periods of Science – all year
- 7 periods of Humanities – semester subjects
- 7 periods of Technology – semester subjects
- 7 periods of Art – semester subjects
- 7 periods of Health & Physical Education – semester subjects
- 7 periods of Languages Other Than English – Japanese OR Italian all year
- 9 periods of VCE – ICT OR Business management all year
The Year 10 Extra-curricular program includes:
- Leadership opportunities, including Student Representative Council and Team Captains
- Year 10 ski camp
- Interschool Sport
- Instrumental Music
- College Production
- Campus Performance evening
- Excursions
- Lunchtime activities
- Work Experience program
- TAFE tasters
- Year 10 Formal
The Year 10 Transition program includes:
- VCE Expo and Information session
- Course Counselling – access to VCE Pathways Coordinator and Managed Individual Pathways Coordinator as well as Careers Counsellor
- Visits to the Essendon campus
- Student speakers from a variety of courses running at the Essendon Campus
- Orientation Program run at the Essendon Campus at the conclusion of Year 10
